Snakes on a plate

November 11, 2009 by Line Maria

With this tableware by Laura Zindel my grandmothers would never come to dinner as they are both extremly scared of creepy-crawly animals, so I guess I better not put it on my Christmas wish list.

I don’t mind this category of somehow black-listed animals (show me a shark though, and watch me scream….). This is me showing off with a scorpio in South Africa – it was like holding a cotton ball – really light.

Applications Anonymous

applications iphone

“Hi my name is Eva, and I’m an appoholic, and I haven’t downloaded an application for 24 hours”

This is the story about how my new Iphone almost ruined my social life.

First day of apps: I downloaded all the free applications I could come across, including the “inhale helium here” and then forcing my dad to speak into it all night, and then rolling around crying with laughter when his voice came out sounding like an unhappy little smurf.

Day two: I discovered “bubble wrap” I realized that I had spent more than an hour on popping digital bubble-wrap-bubbles and had been enjoying it so much that I had popped more than 4000 assorted sizes of fake plastic bubbles.

Day three: Damn you Iphone, the TED app has arrived. spend all day watching TED-talks walking around my flat, getting educated on the subject of prosthetic legs while brushing my teeth. Learning about how bacteria can talk to each other, while I was making coffee.

First step is awareness. And I’ve now reduced my app abuse to maximum 1 app per day, going cold turkey!!

Pure pleasure

This bubble wrap calendar makes sense on so many levels. It reminds me that there is no use in hanging on to everything yesterday as it has already been popped. That there is no use in focusing on tomorrow, as it is out of reach anyways and you might as well stop thinking about it, as you can’t pop it – until tomorrow. So I will just have to enjoy popping this day and have fun it while doing it! Wonder if I can buy a 09 surplus stock, though? And then pop them all on New Years Eve? He he….

I believe it hasn’t been scientifically proven what exactly popping bubble wrap does to the brain, but it must be something like creating a cotton candy themed slumber party in the Corpus calossom, a feeling of dancing the funky chicken in the Frontal lopes and making the Primary visual cortex switch between an image of Josh Hommes and a kitten. We heart bubble wrap.

But it is indeed fun and creates some seriously pretty drawings. Even if you can’t draw, this little toy makes you doodles into brilliant illustration. It’s made by Ze Frank (but beware of visiting his site, it will make you play for hours. The Scribbler takes your half-arsed online doodle and creates a beautiful ink like drawing of it.

Eat my art

I’m in love with both Spike Jonze and Maurice Sendak and like every second other person I know, I can’ t wait for Where The Wild Things Are to premiere in Denmark.

Here is a nice little true story from this site to keep us smiling until the opening night of December 11th:

A little boy (maybe 5 years old) wrote to Maurice Sendak telling him how much he loved his books, his drawings, everything about him. As you might imagine, Sendak gets a lot of fan mail, but he was so moved by this one that he wrote the boy back and enclosed an original drawing, just for him.

The boy was so overjoyed when he received the drawing that he ate it, the entire thing, every last shred of pulp and ink.

His mom wrote back to the author, telling him the story. Sendak was thrilled, saying that that was the greatest compliment he had ever received.

Daryl Waller is the artist behind the clever words of “The pen is mightier than the sword is mightier than the penis is mightier than the  guitar (or was it the other way around?)”. Gotta love him. Check out his work here.
